We are excited to inform our students and parents about our participation in the 2024 Christmas on Green Street Parade on Sunday, December 8th.
Event Details:
Transportation
- Meeting Time: 1:30 p.m.
- Meeting Location: Cherokee Bluff High School Band Room
- Long-sleeve "Ugly" Christmas sweater (or plain green, red, or black top)
- Black dress pants (no jeans!)
- Black dress shoes (Marching Band shoes are acceptable)
- Black socks
Transportation
- School buses will transport students to the Gainesville Civic Center (830 Green Street) for the parade lineup.
- All marching bands will stage at the Gainesville Civic Center (see image below). We are #2.
Parade Route:
- The parade will follow a designated route down Green Street (see image below).
Parade Spectator Parking:
- To be honest, It’s tricky! While there are a few parking lots and decks nearby with handicap accessible parking, all of them still require walking a block or two to get to the parade route. There are a lot of side street parking options along the route, and people typically flock in from everywhere!
With an anticipated 12,000 people in attendance and road closures starting at 1pm, we suggest planning ahead, arriving early, wear good shoes and dress warm! Consider whether you need to be near restrooms, if you have a student performing at a specific house before the parade, if you plan to grab a bite downtown after the parade, etc.
If you are driving in the parade, we are opening check in at 2pm with the goal of giving you a front row parking spot. Once you’re in the line up, you can then enjoy the activities along Green Street. You must be back to your car/float by 4pm for judging; and then you’re ready to go at 5pm for the parade!
Here are a few parking areas to consider:
City Park: Glenwood Drive NE
North Parking Deck: 100 Brenau Ave NE
Hall County Parking Facility: 225 Green Street SE
Main Street Parking Deck: 301 Main Street SW
Note that First Baptist Church and the Civic Center are Staging Zones for the Parade!
Post-Parade Instructions:
Parent Pick-up:
- Following the parade, students will walk down Spring Street to meet the buses and equipment trailer at the Bank of America parking lot (402 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501) to load equipment and collect the Santa hats.
- Buses will then transport students back to Cherokee Bluff High School.
